How to Calculate Marks through the SSC JE Answer Key?

Match your response sheet to the provisional key: add 1 mark for each right Tier 1 answer, remove 0.25 for incorrect answers, and discard unattempted. Calculate the sum and then compare it to the projected cutoffs to get the qualifying probabilities. Normalisation pertains to multi-shift fairness.

Calculation Formula:
Total Score = (Number of Correct Answers × 1) – (Number of Incorrect Answers × 0.25)

Practical Example:
Assume you attempted 185 questions with 145 correct and 40 incorrect answers:

  • Positive marks: 145 × 1 = 145
  • Negative marks: 40 × 0.25 = 10
  • Expected Paper 1 score: 145 – 10 = 135 out of 200
